My Story

7/7/2013

Hi, my name is Kaelyn and I'm 9 years old.  I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on February 4, 2010.  It all started when I was drinking and using the bathroom way too much. My mom took me to the pediatrician and the doctor gave me a urine test to check my glucose levels.  A few days later the doctor called and told my mom to bring me to the hospital right away.  There I found out that I had Type 1 Diabetes.  That's how it all began.  I stayed in the hospital until I could learn about how to take care of myself and my mommy had to give me 4 shots a day!!!  I learned in 2 days how to check my own sugar by pricking my finger and testing my blood with a glucose meter.  Since then, I have learned so much and have met so many other kids with T1D.  Life with diabetes isn't always easy but I have learned to deal with this and that it will not stop me from doing anything I want!
